Description

As a curator, I can tell you that this piece is a classic example of mountain resort photography, likely from the late 1990s to mid-2000s.

Item Details

  • Subject: A winter panorama of Mount Werner (Steamboat Ski Resort). You can clearly see the ski runs and three hot air balloons, which are a signature sight in Steamboat Springs during their annual Balloon Rodeo.
  • Style: The “Steamboat” typography in the top left corner is characteristic of souvenirs sold in the resort’s village or local galleries during that era.

Condition: From the back (Photo 2), the framing appears to be a standard commercial mount with a wire hanger. The front shows some slight “rippling” or waves in the print, which is common for panoramic posters that haven’t been vacuum-sealed or dry-mounted.

Curator’s Note

The hot air balloons make this a more desirable version than a plain mountain shot, as they represent the “spirit” of the Yampa Valley. If you were looking for a vinyl record and this was in the sleeve, it’s a very unusual (but cool) surprise!
